A dog’s journey of life
Posted on September 09, 2009 by: WayCoolDogs
A dog looked through the crack in his dog-house wall to see his farmer/owner and his wife put up a huge “Dog for Sale” sign in the front yard of their farm.
“What does this mean?” the dog silently questioned himself. After looking things over and listening to their conversation, he was devastated to discover they were moving and he was the first animal to be sold.
Retreating to the farmyard, the dog proclaimed this warning to all the farmyard animals:
“There is a Dog for Sale sign in front of the house! There is a Dog for Sale sign in front of the house! I am the first to be sold of all of us!”
The chicken clucked and scratched around the back yard, raised her head and said, “Mr. Dog, I can tell this is a grave concern to you, but it is of no consequence to me. I cannot be bothered by it as the sign says Dog for Sale… it doesn’t say ” Chicken for Sale.”
The dog then turned to the pig and told him, “There is a Dog for Sale sign in front of the house! There is a Dog for Sale sign in front of the house!!”
The pig sadly sympathized, but said, “I am so very sorry, Mr. Dog, but there is nothing I can do about it but pray.. be assured you are in my prayers when you leave.”
The dog turned to the cow and said, “There is a Dog for Sale sign in front of the house! There is a Dog for Sale sign in front of the house! What shall we all do?”
The cow said, “Wow, Mr. Dog. I’m sorry for you, but it’s no skin off my nose. So . . . beat it!”
So, the dog returned to his dog-house, head down and dejected, thinking about the Dog for Sale sign in the front yard. Thinking. . . all . . . by . . . himself. Totally alone.
That very night a sound was heard throughout the house — the sound of a car pulling up to ask about the Dog for Sale sign. The farmer’s wife rushed out to see what was being said between her husband and the people in the car. In the darkness, she did not see it. It was a venomous snake whose tail had been caught all day in the back of the dog-house and had finally freed-itself and had gotten lose, only to immediately bite the farmer’s wife.
The farmer rushed her to the hospital. When she returned home she still had a fever. And everyone knows you treat a fever with fresh chicken soup. So the farmer took his hatchet to the farmyard for the soup’s main ingredient—fresh chicken.
But his wife’s sickness continued.
Friends and neighbors came to sit with her around the clock. To feed them, the farmer had to butcher the pig. But, alas, the farmer’s wife did not get well . . . and she died.
And last of all . . . so many people came for her funeral that the farmer had to slaughter the cow to provide enough meat for all of them for the funeral luncheon.
And the dog looked upon it all from his crack in the dog-house wall with great sadness as all his friends were now gone. He was by himself, but no more than before.
So, the next time you hear someone is facing a problem and you think it doesn’t concern you, remember this. When any one of us is threatened, we are all at risk. We are all involved in this journey called life. We must keep an eye out for one another and make an extra effort to encourage one another.
