Chippy, a Loving Jack Russel Raised as a Cat

Posted on August 27, 2009 by: WayCoolDogs

When Chippy, a 13-15 year old Jack Russel and 40 cats were evicted from a private home, they came as a rescue to a cat charity shelter in Stroud, Gloucestershire, called Stroud Cats Protection League. Chippy was brought here because he had been raised with the cats so long he never realized he was a dog….ever.

It was this reason the charity cat shelter allowed him to accompany his best friend, Anne—a black cat who is his dedicated protector. We would like to say “Well done!” to this shelter for putting the needs of a loving dog ahead of rules and regulations. We checked last night with the shelter, and Chippy has quite recently found a home with a 72-years old lady who is quite familiar with dogs. Welcome home, Chippy….

When the shelter first received Chippy, they had been told he was 19-years old, blind and deaf, but they quickly found out this was not true. A dog who never learned how to be a dog, Chippy seldom barks and uses a cat box. Chippy’s toy is a chewed up mouse but will eat dog food now.

THE STROUD CATS PROTECTION LEAGUE

The Stroud Branch recently celebrated its tenth birthday. The branch covers not only Stroud itself, but also Stonehouse, Dursley, Painswick, Nailsworth, Wotton Under Edge and the surrounding areas. Last year Stroud Cats Protection successfully rescued and 242 cats of which 208 were re-homed. The work is all carried out by volunteers on top of their full time jobs and domestic responsibilities.

chippy2ORIGINALLY FROM THE SHELTER and CHIPPY:

“During the last 19 years I have lost count of the number of cats that I have shared my home with. I use a litter tray but have never got the hang of purring! When my owner & 40 felines were evicted the nice people @ CP just couldn’t leave me behind so I am now in temporary foster care but I would like somewhere permanent for the rest of my days. I promise to stay out of trouble but do like company (feline & human). Being an “honorary cat” I am officially sponsored by Stroud Cats Protection..”
