Causes of dog diarrhea ailment

Age. Diarrhea in puppies can be caused by viruses and parasites. Puppies at the age of 2-3 weeks have a high risk of contacting worms, which in turn cause diarrhea. Do you have an older dog? Diarrhea in older dogs is usually caused by very serious illnesses, such as cancers and kidney disease.

Medications or vaccinations. Have you recently given your dog a new medication? Taken him to the vet for a shot? Diarrhea is a common side effect from many medications, especially in aspirin.

Excitement or stress. An exciting event such as a dog show or a trip to the vet may cause a bout of diarrhea in your dog. Stress related diarrhea usually goes away within a day or so.

Change. This ties into stress. A sudden change in your dogʼs lifestyle or diet may cause diarrhea. Puppies are known to get diarrhea from being fed too much at one time, or a constant change in their food.

Illness. Much like humans, dogs can contract viruses such as the flu. Dogs are natural born scavengers, so dog diarrhea can be caused by something your dog may have ingested, such as garbage, dead animals, plastic or chemicals. A food allergy may also cause diarrhea.

There are many different veterinarian prescribed treatments available. There are also a number of home remedies you can try to help cure your dogʼs diarrhea. Diarrhea is not something a dog owner ever wants to deal with, but if diagnosed properly, can be prevented and treated as soon as possible.
