Dog Health Problems at a Glance

Posted on April 11, 2010 by: WayCoolDogs

Dog health problems are on the rise as the public becomes more self aware of current dog diseases due to the Internet and massive media coverage. With the economy still on the low side, not everyone can afford to take their pet to the vet – many times waiting too long and spending more money in the long run or having their dog pass away.

By taking responsibility for your dog and keeping abreast of preventions for dog health, not only can money be saved but the pet lives or does not get as sick . This not only prevents unnecessary suffering for the dog but makes it less stressful on the dog owner. Here are a few of our articles for a quick look at some different dog health problems to check out.

Abdominal Mesothelioma in Older Dogs

Mesotheliomas in dogs younger than seven weeks of age may suggest that congenital mesothelioma has more of a chance to occur. It happens on a frequent basis on a particular dog, starting by invading the mesothelium area and working its way until it develops tumors in the dog’s chest cavity.

Arthritis – Signs & Symptoms

Knowing what to look for in a dog with developing arthritis is important for their health, protection and upcoming treatment. Hopefully, finding it before it gets too bad is the solution. Remember that aging in dogs with arthritis never goes away but pain can be controlled or eliminated by many ways.

Demodectic dog mange (red mange or demodicosis)

Unlike Sarcoptic mange (scabies), Demodectic dog mange is not contagious and does not itch in the beginning stages, occurring more often in dogs under 18-months of age even though adult dogs are known to get it.

Food allergies in dogs

Food allergies in dogs develop subtly yet have strong consequences. It is a field in its own where knowledge is growing on a daily basis.

Sarcoptic dog mange (scabies)

Considered the most annoying skin disease of all, sarcoptic dog mange causes the dog to scratch and scratch until he is almost half crazy…sometimes leading to death if the condition is left untreated.

Supraglan–A Cure for Cushing’s Disease in Dogs?

Cushing’s Disease in dogs may develop from two things: (1) a benign tumor on one of the adrenal glands or the pituitary gland, or  (2) an overdose and dependency on Prednisone, a drug normally given for arthritis, allergies, or the treatment of autoimmune disorders in dogs.

Winter Allergies: Winter Health Issues in Dogs

Winter seems to be that time of the year when winter health issues for dogs, easily preventable, can cause many unnecessary trips to the vet. Dog allergies are on the rise anymore, with one in seven dogs affected by it with winter allergies playing a large part.
