Dog Supplies And Accessories
Posted on June 30, 2010 by: WayCoolDogs
Dog supplies and accessories have changed drastically over the years, with the world’s first dog living approximately 31,700 years ago. Online dog supplies and accessories have evolved from a history which ranges from a homemade leather collar of leftover leather to small personal fans in their private traveling cages and designer-made boots to protect their feet. Seeing as dogs do not enter the world with a mental blank slate for a one-size-fits all, dog supplies and accessories need to fit the dog breed and their individual needs.
Dog grooming supplies
For example, a miniature American Eskimo has a high grooming requirement due to their double layered coat “blowing” twice a year. A beautiful dog, the Eskie is not a dog to have their hair cut as their double coat keeps them cool in the summer and warm in the winter. Many Eskie dog owners cut their Eskie’s hair down for their own convenience in the hot summers, but are actually harming the dog. If they get out in the hot sun, they will have no protection from overheating and developing heat stroke which can be painfully fatal. When the Eskie begins to lose its under coat, the dog will need continuous grooming and combing or brushing during those times.
Another dog that blows twice a year is the regal Shiba Inu from Japan, but not to the extreme the American Eskimo does, as their hair is much shorter. Both breeds of dogs have double coats as they are considered “northern dogs” who originated from the colder areas. The double coats originally developed to keep the dog warm and protected from icy winds and below zero weather – having major problems in the warmer southern locations. On the other hand, a short-haired rat terrier or short-haired Chihuahua has a very short coat, with a hand grooming glove that is also used for cats able to do the job sufficiently.
A huge assortment of dog grooming supplies is available in local pet stores or on thousands of dog websites. Each dog grooming tool has its own particular role in grooming a particular dog, so make sure the dog grooming supplies are purchased correctly. Either read the instructions on the tool, ask the clerk, or do a little online researching but never just “wing it” or the skin of the dog can become damaged. Also, deep layers of dog hair need to be groomed to prevent matting, which can tear their skin.
Discount dog supplies
Discount dog supplies can be found everywhere – from greenies, free shipping included, to cheap small dog clothing. There are the usually dog supply websites which offer discount dog supplies and there are discount dog supplies which provide nothing but discounted supplies for dogs. The person who sets the pace is the dog owner and their pocket book.
Online dog supplies
The handiest way to shop for dog supplies and accessories is online dog supplies. This allows a person the fastest way to check for discount dog supplies, free shipping, the latest in dog supplies, and get the lowest price on a dog supply that has been in the family for years.
Training dog supplies
The world of training dogs has become huge, approached by professional dog trainers to dog owners doing it themselves. Dog training supplies are provided everywhere, depending on the type of dog a person owns and the type of training needed.
The dog training supply list can be for gun dog training supply, bird dog training supply, working dog training supply, dog agility training supplies, electronic collars dogs, hunting collars for dogs, hunting dog books, and how to train hog dogs. Online dog supplies for specific websites are full of these dog training supplies, or a website can cater to just one dog training supply.
New dog supplies
Getting a new puppy or dog is fun and like getting a new member of the family. Part of this responsibility is getting new dog supplies, such as puppies supplies or what you need for a puppy. This can be their own puppy kennel, puppy crate, puppy bowls, puppy dog food, puppy bed toys so they will not get homesick at first. Puppy necessities will depend on what is already available in the home and what needs to be purchases.
Things to remember when gathering new dog supplies is safety for puppies and weather orientated. Metal bowls when left outdoors will need changed more often then plastic in the summer, plus they will form algae if located in the sun – needing cleaned weekly. There are automatic waters hooked to hoses which can be purchased for outdoor dogs, keeping a fresh supply of cool water all the time.
A draw back for any plastic bowl for water is they are light enough for puppies to carry them around like a toy, so weighted bowls may be a good idea to keep them in water – plus avoiding cleaning up water or feed every time the bowls are filled. Thinking like a puppy or a dog will save a new dog owner lots of problems.

I wasn’t aware that an Eskimo had a double layer of fur. I guess that it is a good thing that I don’t have one since I am so allergic to them. We have a poodle/bichon mix.
