Green Tea for Cancer in Dogs

Everybody drinks green tea anymore — in bottles with citrus or berries, and soothing hot green tea in our favorite coffee cup. At least those who are interested in the health of their body. But there a disagreement among many dog owners whether or not green tea is good for dogs, feeling it is equivalent to coffee and hot cocoa.

Demonstrated as an effective antioxidant which eliminates damaging free radicals in the body, many pet owners are using green tea as a daily supplement for the many health benefits of their pets. In fact, green tea extract has been used in a Mayo Clinical trial with dogs with the dosage of Green Tea’s Polyphenon E used in the Mayo trial at 1.6 grams per day with no damage.

A 50-pound dog should have a dosage  of 300 to 500 ml of green tea daily if it is to be used for cancer prevention.

The preparation is made by extracting 4gm of dry tea leaves which contain a minimum of 7% of EGCG in dry weight in the designated dosage for 50-pound dog (same concentration used for humans).  Prepared once a day, it can be stored in a “capped plastic bottle kept in the refrigerator. ”

And then instead of water, the mixture can be separated into three portions for the dog to drink. Some pet owners can put 2 Tablespoons of whole milk or minced boiled pork liver into the green tea mixture for the dog to drink more rapidly.

Green tea, in particular, has been demonstrated to be a highly effective antioxidant with numerous health benefits.
