Miracle Dog Responsible for Patrick’s Law
“Until he extends the circle of compassion to all living creatures, man himself will not find peace.” ~ by Albert Schweitzer
Located in a New Jersey trash bin of a 22-story building, a tiny, dehydrated and emaciated pit bull mix was found wrapped in a plastic trash bag right before St. Patrick’s Day — within hours of death. According to the rescuer, it looked as if he had been placed in the bag and tossed down the trash chute. The story hit the Internet within hours, with animal activist groups getting involved immediately.
According to the American Humane Society, the unwanted pup had been starved to the point of death before being tossed into the garbage chute. His weight was under 20 pounds, which was half what a pit bull his age should have been. His head looked too big and his ribs were the prominent features of his lifeless body. He was taken to the Garden State Veterinary where specialists immediately gave him a blood transfusion, in addition to fluids and a warm blanket to wrap around the tiny body. Even as they gave him all the TLC he had never experienced before, they were doubtful the pup would survive. But the little puppy received hundreds of prayers coming from those who had heard his story . He hung on throughout St. Patrick’s Day, much to the vet’s surprise … and became Patrick, the miracle puppy, who chose to live.
Beginning of “Patrick’s Law”
The woman responsible for the little pit bull’s horrific abuse is 28-year old Kisha Curis, charged on Friday, March 25, 2011, with two counts of abandonment and two counts of failure to provide proper sustenance. According to NBC LA, she “… could be sentenced to a maximum six months in jail and a $1,000 fine…” But a Burbank, CA, woman decided this was not a harsh enough sentence for animal abuse perpetrators. She chose to enhance and change the law, using “Patrick’s Law” as the tool. In one day, Patrick’s Facebook page had over 15,000 LIKES from caring animal lovers.
On a daily basis, the websites show how Patrick is slowly surviving …. with his ability to have a tiny bowel movement on his own a celebrated thing, due to the starvation and emaciated state of his physical body. Wolf’s efforts are a nationwide grassroots for stronger federal and state legislation against animal abusers — including their enforcement, prosecution and incarceration. She is working on “Patrick’s Law” chapters in every state in the nation to move the media and .encourage officials to improve on animal protection. Hopefully, it will work Meet Mr. Patrick, slowly becoming the country’s success story… for all animal abuse.
