Who is telling these soldiers to man up? Is it someone who has been out to the field or is it coming from someone who has just been riding a desk their whole career never experiencing a traumatic experience themselves. How are they helping our vets by throwing these dogs in the pounds, that move just hurt our vets even more. Where is the thinking at?

This truly hearts my heart. These soldiers put their life on the line and go through things that most of us can not even imagine. I have a dog that is a service dog and I would not be here today if it was not for him. The upper command that says that these soldiers that need to man up are cowards and don't have any idea what they all go through. And these dogs need to be treated with respect cause they are soldiers and have saved life's. and for someone to try and put a stop to this is wrong.. And I will do what ever I have to do to fight for these heroes..

I swear this is so ridiculous. Them telling the shoulders to "man up" I would like to see them go thru what our men and women do and see if they can man up. My husband is a NAVY vet with 3 tours under his belt. He has PTSD. He hallucinates and has nightmares and frequently forgets who I am. We have a French mastiff that some how senses we my husband is having nightmares and hallucinations. Most of the time our dog is the thing can calm my husband down. So I am all for the PTSD DOG program .

Thank you, Tim, for more reasons why our soldiers are in serious trouble. Yes, everyone likes dogs and soldiers, except for those in command. Kind of like our CEOs and top politicians.

Ft. Bliss has a Commanding General who thinks suicide is selfish and suicidal soldiers should just man up and face their real-world problems like the rest of us. He had to retract that statement, of course, but there's the attitude. Here's the deal: the onlly thing high-ranking officers care about is their careers. Legitimate Inspector General complaints with good documentation of abuse of psychologically injured soldiers, plus the same sort of Congressionals constituent complaints and anything else the threatens bad publicity is the only thing that will work. Attitudes about mental health are Jurrasic among NCOs and many officers. Everybody likes dogs and soldiers. This is a story Ft. Bliss CANNOT win if competently presented.

Thank you, Mr. Bliss. You wrote a letter directly from the heart, and I hope our readers understand just how bad things are bad ... and not just a certain party. There are good men in the government, but more that are not. Thank you for your words. We appreciate them.

I was in the military in 66. Believe me when I tell you that our government sounds good on paper but it really looses in the way our representatives and President interrupt it. Today there are few men that will stand up for the rights of the poor and oppressed. Our leadership talks a big talk and pretends that it cares about human rights, truth, and real justice. The laws are being manipulated to protect the guilty and deny the innocent. I know from personal experience that the same happens to men in the service. Very few leaders care about a few men that have experienced trauma to the point that they cannot perform as in the past. It is sad to say that most of the military medical officers will swear by the government and ignore the truth. America please wake up and look at what military psychiatrists are capable of doing. Falsifying medical records, lying under oath, making a medical creed a joke and sacrificing justice for their own rewards. How corrupt that makes our own nation look to the rest of the world. I pray Almighty God delivers the sword to these leaders of injustice and deceit.

Benjamin Franklin in his autobiography stated, “Oh how reasonable it is to be a reasonable creature, then one can find a reason for anything one has a mind to do.” Welcome to the USA, land of the free, land of the brave.
Perhaps we should live as we say we believe, justice, freedom, tolerance, understanding, Christian Values etc… these are just words unless we stop saying things like Corporations are people, and the very people who stand and deliver; sometimes with their lives, are disregarded when they are “NO LONGER PRODUCTIVE”
America is about people, (human beings). Being human, means to have times when other humans, should be kind and helpful. Any government that forgets this will cease to be a government. Any organization that forgets, that when all is said and done, all organizations are about people! Shame on these military officials for thinking that to have a condition caused by the trauma of war is a character flaw. I think the solution to this problem is to have the officials that are making these inhuman rules, go into combat year after year, and then come back and tell the soldiers they criticize how to be. And oh yea, they need to go as on the ground in the battle grunts, not rear echelon brass without any brains or heart.

Typical of the government towards our military. The utilization of veterans to "try out" medications rather than take a homeopathic way of treatment or a add a simple element of comfort a dog. Which by the way there are more positive effects other than to assist PTSD petting a dog actually is calming and can lower the heart rate. On one hand not surprising for the military (I have seen and worked where more hideous experiments was utilized on war time vets). I hope enough people can get together to keep these dogs for our service men and women.
