REVIEWS: Rescue Remedy for Orphan Pets
Posted on August 09, 2009 by Nancy Houser
A local Nebraska dog groomer by the name of Peggy has sent us a wonderful rescue remedy she mixes up for her orphan rescues and animals who physically and mentally go down. Thank you, Peggy….maybe this will help pet owners whose tiny little pets go down when they first bring them home!
- one bottle of pedialyte–clear
- one packet of plain gelatin
- 1/3 cup Karo syrup
Stir together over medium heat until dissolved. Then add:
- 4 egg yolks–beaten
- one small container of plain or vanilla yogurt
- 1/3 cup real mayonnaise
Blend until smooth. Refrigerate for up to 2 weeks.
The mixture will be custard consistency when cold, but can be warmed in the microwave for a few seconds and will turn into a liuid form.
I have used this on a lot of little furry friends and it works great. Just remember to burp the little ones and wash their rectal and urinary area with a warm soft cloth with a gently stroking motion, exactly like their mother when she gets done feeding them. This helps them toilet, otherwise they are unable to do so on their own. It really helps them.
**Peggy is a foster parent for her local vet, and has adopted a jack russell by the name of Maggie who she rescued from the middle of the highway on Easter weekend. No one ever claimed her.
Arty was a rescue 10 years ago from a litter that was being abused in York, NE. He is a curly coat Jack Russell.Emmy is an Australian Terrier that she got last spring when my her dog passed away with cancer. Emmy rules the roost. She also has four pot bellies and a few cats. Presently she is trying to place a kitten she found in the middle of the road when its eyes were barely open. She has been with her for several weeks and the magic formula has really worked on her. She is weaned now from the bottle and ready to go!
