When it comes to flea control the best way to start with is to go for natural choices. Stronger measures should be taken only if natural flea control efforts don’t work. Along with running flea control programs it is also necessary to build up your pet’s health. Your pet needs to follow a healthy lifestyle in order to develop resistance against such unwanted problems like fleas. Another important thing you should always practice is thorough cleaning and sanitation.

In order to fight fleas it is necessary to understand the flea life cycle. The adult fleas live for nearly 3 to 4 months. During this time period they continuously lay eggs on the dog. These eggs mature into larvae. The larvae live in the crevices of blankets, upholstery, sand, floors and rugs.

After a couple of weeks comes the cocoon stage and then the larvae turn into small fleas looking for warm bodies passing by. Fleas grow rapidly and if can not attack them in every stage of their life you can not get rid of them completely. So killing only the adult fleas is not the solution to your problem. By the time you kill adult fleas numerous eggs developed into fleas in the environment.

The good thing is that you can get rid of the flea dirt, larvae and pupa by using a vacuum cleaner. You can also get rid of them by washing away the carpet, rugs etc in the laundry. The eggs and larvae are immobile. So they mostly concentrate in the area where your pet sleeps. If you know your area of focus it becomes easier to do away with the problem.

The fight against fleas mostly depends on cleanliness both for your dog as well as your home. Dog flea control becomes easier when you regularly clean your pet and its sleeping area because cleaning interrupts the lifecycle of fleas. So start your program today and use nontoxic materials to clean your pet as well as your house.
